Rediffusion Hull Reunion 2013
The annual Rediffusion Hull reunion took place at Goodfellowship, Cottingham Road, Hull on Friday 6th December 2013.
There was some doubt that the reunion would go ahead as there had been major flooding in Hull and the surrounding area due to tidal surges in the North Sea and River Humber on the Thursday evening / night. Surges were also predicted for the Friday also. Although Thursday saw major flooding Friday was OK.
There had been some extra publicity via Facebook Group Hull: The Good Old Days and this brought in a lot of former employees who had not attended before. Some did not even know about the reunion despite this being the 28th year! What was disappointing was the lack of people from the office areas of Rediffusion and this is something that can be worked on for 2014.
There were about 55 people in attendance and pride of place must go to John Wride who left Rediffusion Hull in 1975 and this was his first visit. What is more remarkable is that he emigrated to South Africa with Rediffusion and planned his holiday to the USA to coincide with the reunion during a stopover in UK
Many old friendships were rekindled and plenty of drink was consumed, much to the delight of the pub management. Unfortunately due to the higher numbers and the more confined space we were in due to it being an ‘entertainment night’ it was difficult to take a group photograph, despite trying.
Contact was also made with a few other people via email who could not attend this year but have promised to be there in 2014. These include Gary Nichols who lives in southern England; Stephen Horsley who lived in Switzerland for a while but now lives in Scarborough; Chris Hankinson who lives ‘down south’; John Bell who lives 220 miles away from Hull and Gerry Talbot who now lives in Brazil.
